Katie's Free Range Music Project
About Katie Henderson:
I sing and play old-time style mandolin. I'm told I fall somewhere between Edith Piaf and Phoebe Buffay. Ok, I pretty much sound like Phoebe Buffay.
My repertoire includes Appalachian and Child ballads, Carter family, Southern gospel, classic country and blues, Celtic love songs, and Irish drinking songs. Oh yes, and Metallica.
I have been writing original songs for years, many of which have environmental themes because I think it's important to not trash our planet: Pretty Blue Marble, Mary Sue's Blue Subaru Blues, When Women Save the World, Plant a Garden, and Lucid Dreaming. I also write funny songs about everyday subjects such as Cleaning Out My Email, I Hate to Vacuum, and What's in Your Refrigerator. A few are published here.

Yes, I get paid to play.

For a small venue or house concert my fee is $250, including sound. (I have a Bose L-1 sound system that isn't loud... unless you want it to be.) Opening for a headliner is $100. I can play continuously for four hours without doing the same song twice. I can do a set with all traditional or original songs (meaning no copyrighted songs) for venues that don't have an ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC license.
